Simulation

This section explains the process and problems of running simulations. The text deals with general aspects of modelling and the specifics that you need to address in constructing your own model to use in the SimSAGS modelling software. This section is placed here at the start of the user guide because it contains discussion about issues that you should consider early in the process of constructing your model. The "How to's..." and "Where are's..." about the modelling software are comprehensibly covered in the other sections of this user guide.

What is a Simulation?

A simulation is ...like asking a question of your model, like "What should I do if there's little rain next year?" or "Do I get more money if I sell half of my female cattle as well as my normal sales?..."

The Simulation Process

The simulation process involves importing your data and modifying the default model to fully parameterize your model, checking your model, running simulations and inspecting your model outputs...

Simulation Scenarios

A simulation scenario is a rather grand name for a group of parameter values that describe a particular set of circumstances for your site. This may be a decade of fair rainfall before a series of three or four really very bad rainfall years, or five years when market beef prices were very good...

Dangers and Pitfalls of Interpretion

Modelling results can be easily misused. The findings gained through their use can be misintepreted like any other result from research, but model results are typically not exposed to the same degree of statistical rigour as, say, analysis of field results...
